Adorned in body scarification and tattoos, Moniasse also known as Laurence Sessou, 'accidentally' began her modelling career in Mexico after being regularly stopped for pictures in the streets of Playa del Carmen. Since then she has worked with different designers, photographers such as Nick Knight, sculptor Marc Quinn and other creatives — often posing as their muse. In 2016, she featured in the television adaptation of Zadie Smith’s novel N.W alongside Nikki Amuka-Bird and is the ambassador for Nubian Skin's Moroccan Nights lingerie line.
From the Republic of Benin, Laurence grew up in the small town of Evereux, Normandy in France. In 2000, she moved to London and has been working as a Neuromuscular Therapist since graduating from the University of Westminster in 2007.
She has travelled extensively across South East Asia, Latin America, USA, Europe and Africa and is fluent in French, English and Spanish. She enjoys African dancing and has previously worked as a professional dancer and performer for over ten years.
Inspired by her own sisterhood of supportive and creative women, she launched her collective 'AZO-OUI-WA' in July 2017. Meaning 'get the work done' in Fon (Benin), AZO-OUI-WA celebrates and champions women through creative projects and events throughout the year.
